Ghostbusters #15 is the fifteenth issue of the IDW Publishing ongoing Ghostbusters series. It was written by Erik Burnham with story contributions by Tristan Jones, penciled by Dan Schoening, colored by Luis Antonio Delgado, lettered by Neil Uyetake, and edited by Tom Waltz.1 The issue was released on November 28, 2012, with a Diamond Order Code of SEP120333.1 Cover A was illustrated by Schoening and Delgado; the retailer incentive cover was by Tristan Jones.

The issue concludes the Ghost-Smashers story arc begun in the preceding issues, resolving Eugene Visitor's subplot and bringing the fallout of Ron Alexander's knock-off proton packs to a head in Herald Square during the Thanksgiving Day parade.

Plot

The aftereffects of the bootleg proton packs built by Ron Alexander and the Ghost-Smashers have produced an oversized, over-charged ghost -- the Megaspook -- rampaging through New York City during the Thanksgiving Day parade. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, and Egon Spengler deploy to Herald Square aboard the Ecto-2 (debuting from The Real Ghostbusters) alongside the Ghost-Smashers, laying traps in a coordinated grid at Broadway and West 35th Street. Even crossing the streams proves insufficient against the boosted entity. Eugene Visitor's arc, which had run from Issue #8 onward, is wrapped up. Ultimately it falls to Death, making a surprise appearance, to remove the Megaspook from play. Walter Peck at the Paranormal Contracts Oversight Commission deals with the political fallout, while Alice the librarian from the first film appears among the crowd of bystanders.

Trivia

  • The name "Ghost Smashers" is a direct reference to Dan Aykroyd's original script title for the Ghostbusters film.2
  • The Ecto-2 and Helmet Ecto Goggles from The Real Ghostbusters make their IDW ongoing debut in this issue.
  • Luis Delgado hid "15" easter eggs on multiple pages: on the underside of the helicopter (pages 1 and 16), and in the ABS News 15 logo (page 2).
  • Cover RI: The cover is a homage to the opening title sequence of The Real Ghostbusters. It features the Big Mohawk Ghost, Big Spike Ghost, Caterpillar Ghost, Eye Visor Ghost, Horizontal Grin Ghost, Mean Ghost, Big with Mean Teeth Ghost, and Big Mouth Ghost in their respective areas, with Slimer, Gulper Ghost, Wrapper Ghost, Grabber Ghost, and Chomper Ghost as add-ons.
  • Page 1: Carl the reporter references the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man's debut in the first film. The ABS news ticker references Grossjuck Industries and Paul Smart from The Real Ghostbusters episode "Robo-Buster," and also references the Eye of Truth, Possessor Demon, and 20/40/60 from "Egon on the Rampage." In the last panel, Sandy Van Sanders and Roon Ancient appear on adjoining screens, both from "Egon on the Rampage."
  • Page 2: Sandy Van Sanders reports from ABS Studios, both from "Egon on the Rampage." Mr. Visitor's television carries a "Velocity Microphone" label, an older make.
  • Page 4: A plaque references "Wally Wick," the TV-broadcast alternative to the "Dickless" line from the first film, and the 3rd District, Peck's station when he worked for the EPA. An Omni magazine (first seen in the first film) sits on Peck's desk; its cover features Robo-Buster from "Robo-Buster." Ron refers to Ghostbusters defacing national landmarks (including the Statue of Liberty in Ghostbusters II). Jenny references Ray's Occult Books. The bowl of candy is from the opening of "Halloween II 1/2."
  • Page 5: On the back of Egon's pocket computer is "Marsha," the name of his animated counterpart's computer from "Banshee Bake a Cherry Pie?"
  • Page 6: The Thanksgiving Day parade poster mentions Stacy's Department Store from "Killerwatt," and refers to Murray the Mantis from "The Revenge of Murray the Mantis." Posters for Happy Turkey Stuffing appear near Winston, referencing "Guess What's Coming to Dinner?" from the Haunted Holidays trade paperback. Near Peter is Chekaren Fine Furs, referencing the Chekaren character from Issue #8. The Fight Back poster is from the Subway Ghost montage in the first film. Cut off at right is the Some One poster from the Clock Ghost scene in "Three Men and an Egon." The traps are laid at the northwestern corner of Herald Square.
  • Page 7: On the dashboard is the Air Sickness from Kenner's Haunted Vehicles line, completing appearances of all three vehicles in the ongoing series.
  • Page 10: Grossjuck Plaza (based on the MetLife Building) is visible on the left.
  • Page 11: Alice the librarian from the first film is in the crowd. Her books include "Who's Who and What's That," "Spirit Summonings and Conjurations," and "Lochmore's Guide to the Lower Regions." Brett Vanderbrook from the "Follow that Marshmallow" tours also appears. The man who mentions the EPA is visually based on Troy Benjamin of Ghostbusters HQ. Vince Braggs from "Banshee Bake a Cherry Pie?" is in the crowd.
  • Page 12: The traps and Megatrap are connected to a generator arrangement referencing The Real Ghostbusters episode "The Devil in the Deep."
  • Page 13: Peter dons his shades from the Ghostbusters II montage. The trigger Peter uses is visually based on the one used by Egon for the Ecto-Garbage Truck in Extreme Ghostbusters "Back in the Saddle, Part 2."
  • Page 16: Another "15" easter egg appears on the underside of the black helicopter.
  • Page 18: Winston suggests crossing the streams. Egon refers to the Temple of Gozer from the first film. A billboard references Blinkers and his television show, cut from Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Realistic Version).
  • Page 20: Peter describes Death's intervention as a "Deus ex Machina." Stacy's building is visible to the right.
  • Page 22: A photo of the Goast from Issue #14 is present.
