Del Genio's earliest known film credit is The Happy Hooker (1975), directed by Nicholas Sgarro. Based on the memoir by Xaviera Hollander and distributed by Cannon Films, the comedy starred Lynn Redgrave as the titular character. Del Genio played The Grocer in the film.
In Ghostbusters (1984), Del Genio played the Doorman at 550 Central Park West, the Shandor Building where Dana Barrett and Louis Tully resided.
Del Genio's role spans three chapters of the film:
In Chapter 18: Terror on the Tavern, the Doorman is outside the building when Louis Tully runs screaming into the street claiming a bear is in his apartment. A confused couple speaks with the Doorman before Vinz Clortho charges out of the building and knocks him aside in pursuit of Louis.
In Chapter 19: Peter's Date with Zuul, Peter Venkman arrives at the building with flowers for his date with Dana Barrett. A police officer has been taking a statement from the Doorman in the aftermath of the Louis Tully incident. The Doorman steps over, opens the doors for Venkman, and shows him inside.
In Chapter 28: Crossing Streams, after the Ghostbusters defeat Gozer on the rooftop, the Doorman is among those who greet them outside. He opens the driver's side doors of the Ectomobile for Ray Stantz, shakes Ray's hand, and salutes the team as they prepare to leave.
Del Genio's appearances in the film were shot during principal photography in New York. When later pickup shots depicting Venkman's arrival at the building were filmed at a facsimile of the ground floor lobby constructed at the Columbia Ranch in Burbank, a different actor was hired rather than bring Del Genio from New York for the additional scenes. As a result, the Doorman visible in the Los Angeles lobby scenes is portrayed by a different, similar-looking actor.1
