Use in the film

Several album tracks appear in Ghostbusters. "Ghostbusters" plays during the title sequence, the team's montage, and after Winston Zeddemore declares, "I love this town!" "Cleanin' Up the Town" plays when Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman, and Egon Spengler run out of the New York City Public Library, after Janine Melnitz hits the alarm buzzer and announces "We got one!", and over the final credits.

"Savin' the Day" plays during the loading-dock preparations and the team's hand-stack, and again during the credits. "I Can Wait Forever" plays when Ray greets Dean Yeager. "In the Name of Love" plays as Ray, Peter, and Egon toast Dana Barrett before their feast. "Hot Night" plays when Louis Tully and Dana talk in the hall. "Magic" plays after the ghosts exit through the hole in the firehouse and again during the credits. "Disco Inferno" plays during Louis Tully's party, with the "Burn, Baby, Burn" chorus cued to his dance with the tall woman at the party.

Trivia

Songwriter Billy Alessi recalled that every artist who ended up on the soundtrack had been competing to land the film's theme song.1

The first pressing of the album included the film's official mail-order merchandise form.

In the game Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, "Ghostbusters" plays in the opening title sequence. Mick Smiley's "Magic" plays if the player flies the ghost to the top of the Ghost Realm map and again in the final cutscene.
