The original Ghostbusters film was shot on both coasts. Principal photography happened in New York City during the fall of 1983, roughly from September into October, where the production used real Manhattan landmarks for its exteriors. The interiors and several effects-heavy sequences were then filmed in Los Angeles, where soundstages and a handful of California buildings stood in for their New York counterparts. The split is why the firehouse you see from the street and the firehouse the team walks around inside are two different buildings on two different coasts.
