Plot

Coughing erupts from the sleeping quarters of the Firehouse as Egon, Ray, Peter, and Winston are all laid low with a strain of flu. Slimer has already gotten into trouble downstairs, ending up pinned under the refrigerator, and the guys summon him to their room. After Slimer inadvertently yanks all the slime off Egon, the Ghostbusters make their instructions clear: they need complete peace and quiet to sleep off the flu, and the refrigerator must stay fully stocked. A cat named Manx, perched on the windowsill outside, eavesdrops on the whole conversation.

Slimer settles in at the reception desk to watch a soap opera, but when the phone rings he silences it with a mallet. The Ghostbusters drift back to sleep. Manx scales the exterior of the Firehouse using suction cups and slips inside through an open window carrying a bag of tin cans. He dumps the cans down the stairs, and while Slimer scrambles to collect them, Manx raids the refrigerator and builds himself a sandwich. Slimer catches him in the act and ejects the cat by plunging him out a window; Manx lands in the street and barely escapes a passing big rig truck, though his tail is not so fortunate.

Later that evening Slimer stands vigilant guard over the refrigerator. Manx returns, this time using a remote-controlled toy car as a decoy to lure Slimer away, but Manx accidentally swallows the car. Slimer seizes the controls and drives Manx down the stairs into a crash. Slimer then chains the refrigerator shut with a padlock. Undeterred, Manx arrives with a portable generator and a jackhammer. Slimer pinches the power wire until it swells, then releases it: the resulting explosion sends Manx stumbling out of the Firehouse in a daze, his tail run over once again.

Slimer declares victory and finally heads to bed. When the 7:45 A.M. alarm sounds, all four Ghostbusters leap up fully recovered. They head downstairs to find Slimer waiting for them with the refrigerator intact and fully stocked. Egon rewards Slimer by telling him he can have whatever he wants from it. Slimer promptly devours every item inside, and then swallows the refrigerator itself, opening his mouth at the end to reveal the still-glowing bulb inside.

Characters

Manx

Manx is a streetwise cat who serves as the episodic antagonist. Watching from the windowsill as the Ghostbusters give Slimer his instructions, Manx immediately identifies the unguarded refrigerator as an opportunity. He repeatedly attempts to break in using escalating schemes: suction cups to scale the building, a remote-controlled car to draw Slimer off, and finally a full jackhammer assault with a generator. Manx is not a supernatural entity but rather a persistent, resourceful animal foil for Slimer. He does not appear in other episodes.

Trivia

  • Janine Melnitz has the day off and does not appear in this episode.
  • The illness afflicting the Ghostbusters is identified as the Szechuan Flu, a fictional disease whose name references the Sichuan Province of southwest China, known for its distinctive cuisine.
  • Winston Zeddemore is shown sleeping with a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man doll.

Animation Errors

  • During the remote-controlled car sequence, Slimer chases it on the second level of the Firehouse through a room that inexplicably contains a staircase, a continuity inconsistency within the set layout.
