Plot
Ghost pirates bring chaos to all of New York City, blending the character of an old 17th-century pirate port with the present-day metropolis. The Ghostbusters follow Captain Kidd's psychokinetic trail to his newly reformed, lavish 17th-century mansion. There the team finally comes face to face with the dreaded but perhaps misunderstood captain to resolve the supernatural crisis that has overtaken the city.

Captain Kidd: The ghost of historical privateer William Kidd, whose ambiguous legacy has been a thread throughout the series. Issue #4 stages the direct confrontation with Kidd and offers the series' answer to the question of whether he was truly a pirate or a victim of circumstance. He alludes to his execution in 1701 (page 6) and to King William III, who reigned from 1689 to March 1702 (page 7).
Kidd's Ghost Pirate Army: The spectral pirate crew whose rampage through New York City forms the issue's opening set piece. Their presence transforms Manhattan into a visual mix of modern city and 17th-century pirate port.

Cover B by Monika Sznajder depicts Captain Kidd and members of his family. The same portrait composition appears within Kidd's mansion in the issue itself.
Development
On May 23, 2025, August 2025 solicitations were revealed, confirming that Issue #4 would release on September 3, 2025, and teasing a twist when the Ghostbusters confront Captain Kidd.
On August 28, 2025, a five-page preview was posted ahead of the release.
Continuity Notes
- Page 2: The Drone Trap dome is visible on Ecto-1's roof rack, consistent with its introduction in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Two skeletal entities in the crow's nest of the ghost ship strike the iconic "Titanic" pose.
- Page 6: Captain Kidd alludes to his execution in 1701, consistent with the historical record established in Issue #2.
- Page 7: Captain Kidd alludes to William III, who reigned as King of England from 1689 to March 1702.
- Page 9: Lucky's vanity necklace from Ghostbusters: Afterlife reappears. Her khaki flight suit already bears the Ghostbusters Engineer Corps No Ghost patch, a minor continuity note since the Spengler family does not learn about the Engineer Corps organization until the events of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
- Page 10: Trevor mistakes the energized Particle Throwers for "laser swords," and Phoebe corrects him: they are Proton swords. This echoes a parallel moment in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire where Mayor Peck calls the wands a "laser gun" and Trevor corrects him by naming the Proton Pack.
- Page 12: Callie references the famous pirate Blackbeard during the mansion confrontation.
