NOW Comics Spectacular 3-D Special

The NOW Comics Spectacular 3-D Special, also catalogued as NOW Comics Vol. 2 #0, is a special-format comic book published by Now Comics in October 1991. It contains three stories set in The Real Ghostbusters animated continuity, with Story 1 presented in 3-D. The issue serves as a prelude to NOW Comics' second volume of The Real Ghostbusters, with its Tobin story running directly before Real Ghostbusters NOW Comics Volume 2 Issue 1.

The issue was edited by Katherine Llewellyn under chief editor Tony Caputo, with cover art by John Strangeland.

Stories

Story 1: The Screamer (3-D)

The Ghostbusters are called to investigate a ghost haunting a rollercoaster called The Screamer. Despite repeated attempts, the team cannot capture the entity, known as the Rollercoaster ghost. Peter Venkman ultimately resolves the situation not with a trap but through negotiation, convincing the ghost to remain on the ride and scare riders willingly rather than cause genuine harm. The Screamer becomes part of the attraction.

This story is presented in the issue's 3-D format, courtesy of Bob Staake's Apartment 3-D studio.

Story 2: Nobody's Slimer!

This story is a reprint of the "Nobody's Slimer!" strip originally published in Marvel Comics Ltd. The Real Ghostbusters Issue 027 (cover dated December 17, 1988). The original British printing featured art by Brian Williamson with inking by Dave Elliott and colors by Stuart Place. NOW Comics reprinted it here for American audiences.

Story 3: Tobin and the Maze of Time, Part 1

The Ghostbusters discover that Tobin, the legendary author of Tobin's Spirit Guide, has been imprisoned in a dream world alongside a powerful entity he calls the Evil. The team travels into the dream world to rescue him. This story is Part 1 of a two-part serial; Part 2 concludes in Real Ghostbusters NOW Comics Volume 2 Issue 1, which is why the Spectacular 3-D Special is catalogued as Vol. 2 #0.
