Early life
Diaz grew up in Queens, New York. He has spoken openly about the scarcity of LGBTQ+ representation in mainstream media during his childhood and adolescence, citing the character Elliott in Shameless and the ensemble cast of Pose as formative influences that shaped his understanding of the kind of storytelling he wanted to pursue as a performer.3 His advocacy for trans representation on screen and behind the camera has been a consistent thread through his public interviews since his career began.
Career
Diaz made his first on-screen appearance in the web series Strangers in 2017. His first significant television role came the following year as Hex in Marvel's Iron Fist (Netflix), a recurring part spanning four episodes that introduced him to stunt work on a professional set. He described taking that job as "so, so terrifying" as a debut, but has credited it as a formative experience.4
In 2019 he made a guest appearance in The Other Two. He next appeared in two episodes of High Fidelity (Hulu, 2020) as Shane, working alongside Zoë Kravitz on an ensemble that he recalled as "so cool and validating as an artist."5
His breakthrough came with the role of J in Genera+ion (HBO Max, 2021), in which he played for six episodes a witty, easygoing teenager in a group of queer high schoolers navigating identity and sexuality. Diaz modeled J partly on his youngest brother, drawing on his own high school memories to shape the character's particular energy and ease.6 He has said he hoped audiences seeing a trans person in a grounded, positive role would find it "not hopeless,"3 and he has been vocal that productions telling trans stories must employ trans people both in front of and behind the camera.
Also in 2021 he made a guest appearance in Search Party (HBO Max) as Taylor, in an episode that brought him on set with Susan Sarandon.4
In 2023, Diaz joined the recurring cast of The Consultant (Prime Video) as Raul, appearing in seven episodes of the corporate-thriller series. He followed that with the feature film Rittenhouse Square (2024). His 2025 projects include The Golden Voice as Dominic, opposite Nick Nolte and Dharon Jones, Weird Kisses as Jeremy, and Queerbait as Ezra. In 2026 he appeared in Something You Should Know About Me as Mason and made a guest appearance on The Rookie as Jace Oakley.2
Music
Alongside his acting career, Diaz is the vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter for the Long Island rock band Anxioushum, which he formed with his friend Matt, who plays bass. The band performed regularly around Long Island and Brooklyn before the pandemic and released an EP titled Myspace Demos.3 He has described the music side of his creative life as equally central to his identity as his work on screen.
Ghostbusters
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
Ghostbusters: Afterlife marked Diaz's feature film debut. His casting was announced on February 6, 2020, and he filmed on location across two separate blocks, two weeks in July and two weeks in August.5
He portrays Swayze, a teenager who works at Spinners Roller Hop, a drive-in restaurant in Summerville, Oklahoma, and is friends with Lucky Domingo.7 Within the film, Swayze is part of a group of local teenagers who hang around the Shandor Mining Company property and witnesses a spectral face form deep in the mine shaft that speaks the word "Gozer" before the group laughs it off as a joke. Later, Swayze overhears Phoebe, Trevor, Lucky, and Podcast discussing Gozer and Ivo Shandor at the diner.
