Career
In 1986 Carlson moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in voice-over work.6 He began collaborating with Focus on the Family, performing a range of voices for the long-running Christian audio drama Adventures in Odyssey. He made his debut on the series in 1989 in episode #66, "The Imagination Station, Part 1," voicing John Mark.4 Over the years he became best recognized for the recurring villain Richard Maxwell and as Stephen Straussberg, the father of the character Mandy.4
Through Adventures in Odyssey, Carlson connected with writer Phil Lollar and producer Jeff Parker. The three went on to co-found Fancy Monkey Studios and co-create Jungle Jam and Friends the Radio Show, a Christian comedy radio program for children, with Carlson serving as a main voice performer.6
Carlson also co-created the animated series 3-2-1 Penguins! for Big Idea Entertainment alongside Jeff Parker and Phil Lollar.2 The direct-to-video series launched on November 14, 2000,2 topped the Christian Booksellers Association video sales list in 2001, and sold 1.5 million copies by February 2009.2 The series later moved to television, airing on NBC's Qubo programming block.2
Outside children's entertainment, Carlson voiced a tow truck driver in A Goofy Movie (1995)1 and had a role in Wonder Boys (2000).1 He voiced the Lizard in the Spider-Man 3 video game and took on a large number of male character roles in the Cartoon Network animated series Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi (2004-2006), including Vlad, Eldwin Blair, and Master Peng.

Extreme Ghostbusters (1997)
Carlson served as a guest voice actor in the Extreme Ghostbusters episode Ghost in the Machine (production number 127, first aired November 25, 1997).5 The episode centers on an ancient spirit that escapes from an abandoned oil mine and begins possessing vehicles across New York City. Carlson was one of three guest voice actors in the episode alongside D. Bradley Baker and Jack Roth.
