Career

Johnson has built a career spanning film, television, musical theatre, commercial work, session and live vocal performance, and voice-over work. She works with a neutral General American accent and is also capable of Caribbean (Trinidadian and Jamaican), West African, General African, and General London dialects. She speaks English and Turkish.2

Film and television. Her film work includes an early independent credit on Curtains (2017), stand-in and body-double work on Wonka (2023) and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024), and her on-screen acting role in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024).1 On television she has appeared in BBC's Horrible Histories (2021) and in the ITV/Amazon drama Riches (2021).2 Her commercial credits include campaigns for Boots No7, Virgin Money, APRETUDE PrEP, Ritz Crackers, Bayer Aspirin, and Coca-Cola.2

Stage. Johnson's musical theatre credits include Mandela (Germany, 2020), the Aretha Franklin Songbook (UK Tour, 2019), and Songs of Sister Act (UK Tour).2 From March 2024 she appeared on the West End in MJ The Musical at the Prince Edward Theatre, London, performing as a swing cast member.34

Vocals. As a session and live vocalist, Johnson has performed and recorded for Sam Smith, Madonna, Rumer, Leona Lewis, Florence and the Machine, and Michael Buble, among others.2 Her vocal contributions to Madonna's 2015 album Rebel Heart and her appearance with Sam Smith on The Graham Norton Show are among her documented credits.2 She independently releases R&B and pop music under the stage name KalishaJ, and holds work authorization for the UK, the US, and internationally.2

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Johnson portrayed Reporter #1 in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024),1 appearing alongside fellow reporters played by Evelyn Edwards, Andrew Goddard, and Deeivya Meir.

She booked the role in an unusually compressed five-day window in May 2023. Her agent reached her while she was overseas, and without proper equipment to hand, she improvised a self-tape in a hotel laundry room using a television remote as a stand-in microphone. After returning home from a ten-hour flight, she recorded a second self-tape around 2 a.m. She subsequently signed her contract and attended a costume fitting shortly thereafter.
