James Hardie (screen credit: James Hardy) is a television character actor whose career spanned from the late 1970s through the mid-2000s.1 He is known to Ghostbusters fans for playing a Reporter in the original Ghostbusters (1984) film.2
Career
Hardie built a steady career as a supporting and guest actor across a wide range of American television dramas and comedies. His earliest documented credits include two guest appearances on Quincy, M.E. (1979).1 Through the 1980s he appeared on many of the decade's most prominent network series, including Lou Grant, Hill Street Blues (1982), Remington Steele, Fame, St. Elsewhere, Hardcastle and McCormick, Cover Up, Matlock (1986), and Newhart.13
He continued working steadily into the 1990s, with guest roles on Knots Landing, Easy Street, 1st & Ten, Guns of Paradise, Peaceable Kingdom, and a notable appearance on Quantum Leap (1990) in the Season 2 episode "Her Charm," in which he played Professor Sebastian LoNigro.4 He also appeared in the 2005 TV series Second Time Around.5
On the film side, Hardie appeared as a Police Interrogator in the John Schlesinger spy thriller The Falcon and the Snowman (1985, starring Timothy Hutton and Sean Penn),56 and as a Record Room Guard in the Jean-Claude Van Damme action film Death Warrant (1990).3 His other film credits include Goldie and the Boxer Go to Hollywood, Murder in Paradise, The Great Los Angeles Earthquake, and The Great White Hype.53
Ghostbusters
Hardie appeared in Ghostbusters (1984), credited as James Hardy, in the role of a Reporter.2 He was one of several reporters depicted in news-coverage scenes surrounding the Ghostbusters' rise to fame, alongside Stanley Grover, Carol Ann Henry, Frances Turner, and Nancy Kelly.2
