Hasbro Pulse has revealed an exciting new collectible at San Diego Comic Con: The Real Ghostbusters Ecto-Plazms, a nostalgic blind box set that brings back the iconic slime canisters from the beloved 1986 animated series... minus the actual slime.
The set includes 72 mini figures packaged across 12 retro Ecto-Plazm canisters, each containing six mystery figures. Collectors can hunt for 12 possible characters, including the five Ghostbusters (Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, Winston Zeddemore, and Janine Melnitz) and seven iconic ghosts (Slimer, Granny Gross, Sandman, Boogieman, Fearsome Flush, Bug-Eye, and Samhain). A lot of fans will ask and according to Hasbro, you will get the full set of 72 divided across the 12 canisters.
The original Ecto-Plazms were a fan-favorite product from the Kenner toy line, and this new collection honors that legacy with packaging inspired by those classic 1980s designs. Adding to the collectability, each character can appear in six different color variants, including a glow-in-the-dark option, giving fans hundreds of potential combinations to chase.

I understand they had problems with the slime products linked to Afterlife due to delays and what I assume was poor slime composition. Given there a loads of slimes on the market for kids which presumably don’t dry up in their packaging.
However, it blows my mind they aren’t reissuing slime in these. And then they’re only selling as an $90 set? Have I got that right? DOA. Huge missed opportunity.
Selling “Ecto-Plazm” without the ectoplasm is a choice, I must say.
There are just a ton of issues with slime.
Toxicity, staining, drying out.. etc. They view these as a collectable item rather than something you’re going to play with.
Having not been allowed to use the slime that came with my Kenner Firehouse back in (I think?) 1993, the lack of slime isn’t a deal-breaker for me, and it means that people collecting them don’t have to wash the goo off so they can display them out of the tubs.
I get there are issues - but slime exists at retail already.
Let’s say they did a 4-pack. With different coloured lids / slimes, and the toy comes in a clear bag, two per carton. For $34.99.
That would’ve made a lot more sense imo.
If I could buy one for $10 as a blind box then that’s maybe fine.
I’m amazed if they sell any of these at $90.
I have zero interest in Ecto Plazms without the Ecto Plazm. A shame.
Side note: does anybody know what the original slime was made of, and why it’s not possible to emulate and retail in 2026? Was it harmful?
The smell and consistency of the stuff was unlike any other slime product I’ve encountered on the market.
