Plot

Chilly and Slimer leave New York City for a camping trip in the woods. Two rabbits named Robby and Rufus, self-described "party animals," spot the visitors and become very interested when Slimer unpacks bags of food. Their first theft attempt is interrupted when a hammer head falls loose and lands on Rufus' foot, sending them scrambling. While Chilly goes fishing, Slimer breaks out a box of Mama's Insta-Meal, a product of Lompoc Incorporated: a single blue pill dropped in water expands into a full meal. The rabbits steal the box and pour dozens of pills down their throats at once, then drain a river to cool the heat, causing their stomachs to balloon and explode. Undeterred, the rabbits steal a beehive and trail honey directly to the sleeping Slimer, so that a column of ants carries him back to their mound. Slimer escapes and finds Robby and Rufus wrecking his tent. He stuffs an inflatable life boat into the tent and activates it; the tent launches the rabbits into the air. They crash into another beehive and flee the furious bees. Chilly and Slimer watch from their hammocks as the two run past, and Slimer cheerfully confirms they are, in fact, party animals.

Characters

Slimer

Slimer is the lead of the Slimer! segments, voiced by Frank Welker. He supplies the camping gear and food, and ultimately outwits Robby and Rufus with an inflatable life boat.

Chilly Cooper

Chilly Cooper is Slimer's recurring human companion in the Slimer! segments, voiced by Cree Summer Francks. She goes off to fish while Slimer minds the camp, and is largely oblivious to the full chaos the rabbits cause.

Robby and Rufus

Robby and Rufus are the one-off antagonists of this episode, a pair of bad rabbits living in the New York wilderness who style themselves as "party animals." Robby is tall and lanky and wears a hat; Rufus is short, stout, and bearded. Their goal throughout the episode is simply to steal Slimer and Chilly's food. Robby is voiced by Rob Paulsen and Rufus by Frank Welker. Their slapstick dynamic, including hitting each other with mallets and suffering cartoon self-harm from their own schemes, is a deliberate nod to classic Looney Tunes-style comedy. The Fandom wiki notes they are also an allusion to the 1988 film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."

Trivia

  • The episode was recorded on August 17, 1988, roughly four months before its December 17 airdate.
  • Robby and Rufus allude to the 1988 film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit."
  • The Lompoc Incorporated brand (maker of Mama's Insta-Meal) reappears in the episode "Rainy Day Slimer."
