Plot

Slimer and Fred stand outside a deli window, dreaming of food but penniless. Noticing a sign for the Canine Club's Annual Dog Show at 3 pm, they decide to enter and win the prize money. Slimer fashions himself a human disguise from discarded costumes near a trash can, though Fred barely recognizes him.

Professor Dweeb happens to be passing by in his van when his instruments detect Slimer. He charges toward the club but is turned away by the door attendant, Mrs. Stone, who bars entry to anyone not accompanied by a dog. Dweeb retreats to his van, where his assistant Elizabeth gets herself ready as a canine competitor.

Inside, Mrs. Stone assigns Slimer and Fred to a stall. As Slimer grooms Fred, Dweeb prepares his Slime Transporter Beam in the rafters. Slimer inadvertently scares a cluster of fleas off Fred, which land on Dweeb and cause him to misfire the device, trapping a large bulldog instead. The bulldog pulls Dweeb into the gadget and mauls him.

The judging begins, overseen by a judge named Rafael. Elizabeth uses a remote-controlled toy fire truck loaded with a steak to lure all the other competing dogs out of the building, disqualifying the entire field. Slimer keeps Fred's eyes covered so he ignores the steak. With the competition cleared, Slimer avoids another Grabber attempt by Dweeb and crashes into Elizabeth, dousing her in slime. Dweeb tumbles from the rafters and lands inside a large human-size cat costume beside the first-place trophy. Rafael awards Slimer and Fred first place along with the prize money, while Elizabeth is handed a consolation prize of "cat nip." Elizabeth, along with every other dog in the building, then chases Dweeb out of the club. Slimer and Fred celebrate at the deli, and Fred also retrieves the abandoned steak from the toy fire truck.

Characters

Slimer is the lead character of the Slimer! segments, a friendly green ghost voiced by Frank Welker. Fred is Slimer's pet dog, a recurring companion throughout the sub-series. Professor Dweeb is the recurring antagonist, an obsessive scientist fixated on capturing Slimer, voiced by Jeff Altman. Elizabeth is Dweeb's equally conniving feline assistant, voiced by Cree Summer.

Rafael is the dog show judge who awards the prizes. Mrs. Stone is the Canine Club door attendant who enforces the entry rules and inadvertently thwarts Dweeb's initial approach.

Equipment

Three of Professor Dweeb's gadgets appear in this episode:

  • Dweeb's Van: his mobile pursuit vehicle, equipped with ghost-detection instruments.
  • Slime Transporter Beam: intended to capture Slimer remotely; misfires and traps a bulldog instead.
  • Ghost Grabber: a plunger-based device Dweeb deploys from the rafters of the Canine Club.

Trivia

  • The episode was recorded on August 24, 1988, roughly six months before its March 4, 1989 broadcast.
  • Spook Central's episode guide lists this as Episode 11 of the Slimer! sub-series and notes its DVD placement on Vol. 5, Disc 4.
