Nadeem Razmaadi is a Queens-based slacker and small-time sneaker reseller who unknowingly sets the central plot of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024) in motion when he sells his late grandmother's possessions to Ray Stantz. He is portrayed by Kumail Nanjiani. He appears only in the Ghostbusters: Afterlife/Frozen Empire continuity.

Nadeem's grandmother (his Dadi) was the last guardian of the Orb of Garraka, a sealed bronze vessel imprisoning the ancient death entity Garraka. She kept the orb quiet inside a secret room lined entirely in brass, an alloy long believed to trap and suppress demonic entities. After her death, Nadeem, who had never been close to her, discovered the room while searching for Pop-Tarts. Unaware of its significance, he packed the contents into a box and brought them to Ray's Occult Books, asking Ray Stantz for $30 for the lot.
Ray immediately keyed on the orb. When he took a P.K.E. Meter reading, the store rumbled, the meter broke, and the display glass shattered from the off-the-chart telekinetic reading. Ray paid cash and Nadeem left, still unaware that as he stood on the sidewalk he was unconsciously affecting a nearby street vendor's grill flame with his own latent P.K.E. energy.
Two days later, Lucky Domingo, Lars Pinfield, and Trevor Spengler visited Nadeem's apartment. He let them in on the condition there would be no talk of a refund. They found the secret room still intact at his apartment. Lars explained that the full brass-lined room was acting as a containment vessel, keeping the orb quiet. A P.K.E. Meter scan of Nadeem himself returned alarming readings, suggesting he had his own paranormal abilities.
Nadeem was brought to the Paranormal Research Center and fitted with the Aura Video-Analyzer helmet. Peter Venkman ran a characteristically unorthodox interview, throwing pens at his face and asking progressively strange questions. Observers including Lars and Lucky confirmed that in his heightened emotional state, Nadeem was unconsciously manipulating a Bunsen burner flame. He had pyrokinesis.
Ray then explained Nadeem's heritage: his Dadi was a Fire Master, the last line of defense against Garraka, and it was now Nadeem's turn. Ray coached him and Podcast in a training session on the Firehouse's second floor, starting with moving a lighter flame onto an unlit candle. Nadeem was deeply skeptical but managed a small success.
During the climactic confrontation with Garraka, Nadeem's lighter was drained of fluid from practice. Garraka used this against him, plucking the empty lighter away and freezing everyone present. Nadeem, who was not frozen, retreated to the side. When Phoebe Spengler attacked Garraka with her brass-plated Proton Pack and was also frozen, the situation turned desperate. Melody appeared and lit a match. Nadeem took control of the flame, channeled his pyrokinesis, and blasted Garraka. The fire spread and thawed everyone out, allowing the team to resume the fight. Garraka was ultimately pulled into the Containment Unit. After it was over, Nadeem told a Channel 8 reporter that he was a Fire Master like his Dadi.
Nadeem has the ability of pyrokinesis. He can instinctively influence and redirect existing flames without direct contact. Early in the film he does this involuntarily, affecting candle flames and a street vendor's grill when emotionally agitated. With coaching from Ray Stantz and Podcast, he learns to direct the ability deliberately, eventually channeling a match flame into a full blast sufficient to drive back Garraka.
Nadeem openly describes himself as someone who forged ahead with no education or future prospects, framing it as a kind of bravery. He is good-humored and deflects tension with jokes, though he is genuinely uncomfortable with the parade of strange events around him. He was not close to his grandmother, who called him unambitious; her death leaves him unsettled, and he bristles at others making disrespectful jokes about her. He warms quickly to people who treat him with basic decency, which is part of why he trusts the Ghostbusters team despite abundant reasons not to.
Kumail Nanjiani was cast as Nadeem, and his character's name was publicly revealed on January 15, 2024. An interview published in SFX #376 (March 2024, released February 21, 2024) described Nadeem's arc as "stepping up to the plate in a way that will allow him to become closer to his full potential" and as "representative of how we approach the story as non-Ghostbusters and as fans of the Ghostbusters world, both with a sense of scepticism and wonder."
The costume design for Nadeem was built around Nike brand clothing throughout, including Air Jordans as a nod to sneaker culture consistent with his reseller persona. His blue Nike hoodie was sourced from a thrift store by the costume department. His purple "American Idle" outfit was scripted as a visual joke about his slacker persona; costume designer Alexis Forte determined the text worked better running vertically down the garment with splatters rather than straight across the chest.
Nadeem's Fire Master armor was a more complex production effort. Costume designer Ruth Myers found an etched metal decorative fan by chance in an antique mall and used it as the design inspiration. The finished armor was constructed by Myers and the specialist firm Makinarium Ltd at Pinewood Studios.
The Fire Master armor is one of the more distinctive new costume elements introduced in the Afterlife/Frozen Empire era, and its production provenance has been documented: constructed by Ruth Myers and Makinarium Ltd at Pinewood Studios, with the decorative fan find being a fortuitous starting point for the design.
