Plot
A parade was underway outside the Sedgewick Hotel. Slimer slipped out to join his dog Fred, but Morris Grout, whose mild allergy to dogs was triggered by Fred, cut their plans short and returned Fred to Mrs. Van Huego's condo. Bud, a bellhop and close friend of Slimer, had packed snacks for the parade, but Grout confiscated those too and put Bud to work sweeping the lobby. Slimer then spotted a newspaper ad: the Uptown Hotel was seeking a new manager. Slimer and Bud plastered the ad all over the lobby, and Grout took the bait, resigning on the spot to pursue the opportunity.
With Grout gone, Bud, Fred, and Slimer celebrated freely in the lobby. The celebration was short-lived. Professor Dweeb and his companion Elizabeth arrived at the Sedgewick, with Dweeb announcing himself as the new manager and promptly setting up surveillance cameras throughout the hotel. He had also rigged a large cake in the dining hall as a ghost trap; Slimer walked straight into it and was captured. Bud grew suspicious when he found Fred restrained by Dweeb, who claimed it was a scientific endeavor and raced off, sending Bud into a wall. The freshly waxed floors sent Dweeb careening on a staircase, and Slimer and Fred managed to get loose. The three regrouped outside through the back door and resolved to bring Morris Grout back.
Slimer, Bud, and Fred disguised themselves and checked into the Uptown Hotel, where Grout was already struggling as manager. Slimer began haunting the guests in earnest: a woman jumped into her own suitcase and fled, a server and two patrons rolled away on a dining cart, and a flood of refund demands overwhelmed the switchboard until it exploded. Meanwhile, Dweeb had activated his Slime Sniffer and tracked Slimer to the Uptown, though Elizabeth, completely exhausted, refused to go further. Dweeb cornered Slimer and crashed into Grout in the process. Slimer escaped up an elevator; Dweeb and Elizabeth took another, but Dweeb struck the control panel and the car launched both of them to the Moon. Grout, overwhelmed by the chaos, quit the Uptown and returned to the Sedgewick, where he resumed commanding Bud and Fred with evident satisfaction. When he turned and found Slimer watching, he chose to simply walk away, insisting he had not seen him. It was good to be back.
Equipment
Cake Trap: Professor Dweeb concealed a ghost trap inside a large cake placed in the Sedgewick Hotel dining hall. Slimer was captured when he went for the cake, though he later escaped in the commotion.
Slime Sniffer: A helmet-mounted tracking device that homes in on Slimer's slime trail. The Sniffer propels its wearer at high speed, dragging Dweeb through garbage cans and bystanders. At the Uptown Hotel, the device caused Dweeb to ram into Morris Grout, and a collision with an elevator control panel ultimately launched Dweeb and Elizabeth to the Moon.
Characters and Locations
Morris Grout (also known as Morris P. Grout) is the demanding, rule-enforcing manager of the Sedgewick Hotel and a recurring antagonist in the Slimer segments. His mild allergy to dogs is the inciting complication in this episode; Fred's presence sets everything in motion.
Professor Dweeb is the obsessive ghost-hunter and series villain who takes over as Sedgewick manager after Grout's departure. His qualifications for the position come from a minor in Business Administration, a credential established in the The Real Ghostbusters episode "The Slob." He is accompanied throughout by his companion Elizabeth.
Bud is a bellhop at the Sedgewick Hotel and one of Slimer's closest friends. He drives the plan to place Grout at the Uptown and leads the effort to undo it once Dweeb arrives.
Fred is Slimer's dog. His presence at the hotel antagonizes Grout due to Grout's allergy, directly triggering the episode's setup.
Elizabeth is Professor Dweeb's companion. She assists him throughout but by the episode's climax refuses to continue the pursuit of Slimer, leaving Dweeb to face the Uptown Hotel alone.
Manx makes a brief cameo when the Slime Sniffer drags Dweeb around a corner and through a row of trash cans.
Mrs. Pennyworthy appears as a cameo patron at the Uptown Hotel. She first appeared in the episode "Go-pher It."
The Gumball's Department Sales Clerk from "Cash or Slime" appears as one of the patrons scared by Slimer in the Uptown Hotel dining room.
The Sedgewick Hotel is the primary setting of the Slimer segments throughout the series and the site of both Grout's management and Dweeb's takeover and traps.
The Uptown Hotel is the ritzy establishment where Grout takes the manager job. Its phone number, 555-1212, is the number traditionally associated with directory assistance in North American telephony.
