Ectomobile

Here's my Polar Lights Ecto-1. I completed it a year ago, but just NOW have gotten around to posting it up. I matched colors to the movie, and did a little tweeking. The main things I did; I cut off the "flat cone" on top of the white box, painted it, and glued it on the front-middle of the rack where a light is missing. I cut off the plastic attennas behind the white domed-cylinder w/red stripes, and replaced them with small metal wires, making it look more realistic. I know the decals aren't 100% with this kit, but I did use them. I also took plastic insulation from wires, and looped it around the rack in places, and under the lightbars just to give it some detailing (not wired like the real thing, but it does add some nice dimension. Even though you can't see the interior, I did do a quick paint job (I'd go crazy knowing it wasn't painted). It's a bit sloppy in places, but who cares. I did paint the inside of the windows in the back black for tinting effect. In the front driver's/passenger's side windows, I only did a half-tint, so you can see some on the front seat. I am THRILLED with the tinting effect, it really adds some weight illusion to the car.
I did use bare metal finish for the chrome trim; you can see the overlaps in the pictures, but in person it looks much smoother (digital cameras are great, but pick up ALL details and imperfections). I also painted hinges around the doors black (a bit much maybe, but again, it adds detail and looks better than if left alone. Finally, for the grill and hubs, I diluted black paint w/paint thinner, brushed it on the pieces, then sopped up the excess w/a paper towel.
