- Peter references The Wizard of Oz and Huey Lewis and the News.
- In a bit of a "Citizen Kane" spoof, Maurice Lamarche{.wikilink} does his famous Orson Welles voice as the ghost in this episode.
- Charles Foster Hearse is a reference from from Citizen Kane, Charles Foster Kane.
- Peter says "of the swimsuit issue?" but Ray's voice comes out.
- Peter's line "I came, I saw, I captured" is a reference to the first Ghostbusters movie where Bill Murray says "We came, we saw, we kicked it's ass!"
- Peter's line "Is that where the Gatekeeper lives?" is a reference to the first Ghostbusters movie. The Gatekeeper is what Sigourney Weaver's character becomes when she is possessed.
- The names "Hearse Castle" and "San Simoleon" are plays on the famous Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California.
- Ms. Mentee is voiced by Anne Curry.
