The Ghostbusters are pitted against each other for the title of "Ghostbuster of the Year" for a magazine feature. All they have to do is capture an infamous ghost in Hearse Castle.As they search the castle, the only clue they find to the haunting is the word "rosebud".This episode in a way is dedicated to a book of a similar story.

    *Charles Foster Hearse: Founded the magazines "Spooks Illustrated", "Boosweek" and "Popular Fantasmics". He created the publishing empire based on his love of the supernatural. His ghost still haunts his mansion.

    • Peter references The Wizard of Oz and Huey Lewis and the News.
    • In a bit of a "Citizen Kane" spoof, Maurice Lamarche{.wikilink} does his famous Orson Welles voice as the ghost in this episode.
    • Charles Foster Hearse is a reference from from Citizen Kane, Charles Foster Kane.
    • Peter says "of the swimsuit issue?" but Ray's voice comes out.
    • Peter's line "I came, I saw, I captured" is a reference to the first Ghostbusters movie where Bill Murray says "We came, we saw, we kicked it's ass!"
    • Peter's line "Is that where the Gatekeeper lives?" is a reference to the first Ghostbusters movie. The Gatekeeper is what Sigourney Weaver's character becomes when she is possessed.
    • The names "Hearse Castle" and "San Simoleon" are plays on the famous Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California.
    • Ms. Mentee is voiced by Anne Curry.
