This prototype Ghost Boy was gifted to me at the end of my term as president of the Circle City Ghostbusters. It was built by Nic Farnsworth. This is a recreation of the Ghost Boy that appeared in concept art from Ghostbusters Afterlife.
It was built with a real Game Boy, a Fun.com PKE Meter, and various sourced parts. All PKE functions and Game Boy functions still work and game cartridges can be swapped like normal. The Game Boy's internals were swapped with a version that can play Game Boy Color games. It can also swap screen colors, with the options being: traditional Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and monochrome with the following colors: kelly green, light blue, dark blue, purple, black/white, and red. The PKE portion still runs on AA batteries and the Game Boy is rechargable via a USB-C port on the bottom of the PKE's handle.
My contributions to the Ghost Boy are designing the Ghost Boy logo on the face of the unit, copying the Game Boy font as close as I could, then getting it produced as a sticker and affixing it, adding the gaffer's tape on the handle (and cutting it so the battery compartment can still be accessed), creating the VER. 3B label, and attaching the capacitors to the sides of the unit. Nic did the rest.
We also have a Game Boy Camera we call the Ecto-Imaging cartridge that can be swapped in, that has been decorated with a label and GB stickers.
