Proton Pack

This is my first and probably last proton pack that I'll ever make, so I poured in as much detail as I possibly could. Although it is my first it came out quite well and is lighter than expected. The pack is made mostly, save for a few resin parts, from wood. I did make an exception for the resin parts from Ken Huegel because I either couldn't get the correct detail or I couldn't build them myself. The pack has taken over 1 year to construct and is just in time for halloween '02(I'm hoping to have a blast with this thing). Labels are from Charles Walker, and if you're wondering...Yes, that is an R-501 on the pack. The hose is 1/4" with 1/4" brass fittings. Its taken about 3-4 coats of thick primer just to get rid of most of the wood texture but there is still quite a bit showing. I'm not going to point out all the mistakes, although I would love to do so for my own sake :). The gun still needs a lot of work just to match up with the quality of this pack. The mounting system for the frame was originally conceived by my grandfather, excellent idea I must say. Just so you know, I've been through the following parts to build this pack: 3 spacers, 3 ion arms, 2 gearboxes, 2 EDA boxes, 2 booster boxes, 4 motherboards, and 2 sets of cosmetic armor. This is why it took us so long to finish the pack but the results more then make up for it. The first gun, which you can see below, is more of a rush job then anything. Since we fell behind schedule and the fact that a bunch of halloween parties were coming up I had to get a gun and get it fast. To secure the grips and both handles onto the gun I simply used a white silicon caulk that is holding well to this day, its also very sandable but requires a lot of work while it is still soft to be smoothed over by hand.
