After a short time in the U.S. Marine Corps, Ernie became a student at Wayne State University, hoping to develop his writing and acting skills. After graduating from Wayne State, he received a full scholarship to attend the Masters of Fine Arts program at the Yale School of Drama. Ernie had roles in a series of television shows and movies in the 70’s and 80’s, but is most known for his role in Ghostbusters.

Recently, he’s played Warden Leo Glenn in the series Oz on HBO, and still plays supporting roles on TV and in film. Ernie auditioned to play the voice of Winston for The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series, but Arsenio Hall was given the part instead. However, Ernie will be reprising the role of Winston in the Ghostbusters video game, which was released in June 2009.

“I’ve been in this business for 40 years and some of my close friends have never been seen in anything. So to have the opportunity to be in a movie, especially one as culturally present as Ghostbusters, is really a treat I treasure every day. So when people come up to me and say ‘That's a big Twinkie’ or ‘I've seen sh** that will turn you WHITE’, I don't really mind at all.”
