Creating a Proton Stream

Not sure if this belongs here or in fan videos, but I'm rolling the dice. Mods, feel free to move if needed.
Anyone have any tips/tricks on how to create a proton stream for a video? I was thinking of doing something fun with my kids this summer and was looking it to be some sort of GB video.
I don't have very high end video equipment/software and I am not sure if I want to dump a ton of money into software for something I'll likely only use once. I don't know if proton stream effects can be done with limited materials.
While I have done video editing in the past, the use of special effects is something I am a novice on. Any helpful insight is appreciated.
