Personally find them poorly modelled compared to Spiderverse - the eyes don’t work for me. It’s like the difference between Real GB episode from a top-of-their-game anime studio versus one of the off-model western animated episodes or the rigidity of Extreme GB. I get there’s a huge budgetary difference at play bs something like Spiderverse.

I’ve only seen stills and clips of Stranger Things so maybe it looks better in motion, but the designs irk me.

I don't know if a Spiderverse or Tales from '85 style would be my preference either. But I'm content with it if the other option is going in a direction similar to Rise of the TMNT.

I am a bit worried about the response to the time period. I think most people will assume that a 90s GB story will follow the original team. When they see four younger leads, I think there's going to be some disappointment. On the surface, it does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity. Given what we know about the hauntings post-GB2, I'm not sure why a new team would even be needed around this time. My hope is that the series takes this into account somehow, and doesn't enter retcon territory.

But it's all speculation until we know the full story; hopefully by GB Day. Sneider could end up being completely wrong, lol.

Ok so I’m not sure if I’m articulating this right but compared to Spiderverse, the animation rig is more rigid, the designs are angular, and the shading is more harshly baked. The result looks like a Telltale videogame cut scene.

By comparison Spiderverse designs are more more rounded, fluid with softer shading.

I’ll give ST’85 a full watch but I’m not thrilled on that style.
#5009027
Well, of course. Spider-verse vs. ST '85 animation is studio movie money vs. streamer series money. I'm not saying to give up on this show having Spider-verse level animation, but be prepared for it to not be 1:1.

Does this mean well get the series this year, or will they shelve it for another 4? Hope I'm wrong, and it's a decent show.

Food for thought, a timeline for Stranger Things '85 and then one for this GB show:
-February 17, 2022: Duffer Brothers say they want to make spin offs
-July 7, 2022: Spin off announced
-April 10, 2023: Greenlit, Flying Bark and producers named
-April 23, 2025: It was reported Netflix Animation will be previewing titles at Annecy

-March 29, 2026: More voice cast revealed
-April 18, 2026: Limited theatrical screening of episodes 1-2.
-April 23, 2026: Series premieres on Netflix

Now compare to this GB series
-On June 8, 2022, announced to be in development with Reitman, Kenan, and Netflex. They tease the series will navigate an unexplored era and decade of canon, there will be new characters, new places will be seen, and is set in the future.
-March 21, 2024: Kenan watched a presentation that included the sets, the environments, and "a world of supernatural characters" The status of the series currently is it is in full development. Scripts are currently being written and art is being created.
-August 12, 2024: Greenlit. Elliott Kalan boarded the project as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. It is a 3D animated series and will be tonally in line with the recent Ghostbusters movies.

-March 6, 2026, Jeff Sneider alleged the series is set in the 1990s and is tied to Walter Peck's initial run for mayor.
- April 26, 2026, it was reported the series will have a first look at Annecy Festival in June.

Very exciting if we're following the same timeline of reveals, we could be looking at the title reveal next month, a write up from what's shown at Annecy at the end of June, a preview reel and voice cast info in November, teaser in February 2027, trailer in March 2027, premiere in April 2027.

Oh so Stranger Things 85 has taken just as long.

The only other Netflix cartoon I followed leading up to it was Sonic Prime. I’m sure I mentioned it. It was announced and released within 2 years. Obviously it was in development before that but the public was not aware until a leak in December 2020.

I just looked up My Little Pony Next Generation since that also made the shift from TV to Netflix. Announced in 2019 but character design started in 2017. The movie (which was the intro to the series) released in 2021. So 4-5 years but again announced in 2019. Not sure about leaks.

I guess the moral of all this is don’t announce something that’s still 5 years away...it just leaves people anxious and wondering about it...unless you give some information along the way. No reason to keep title and basic plot hidden for so long.

You forgot to add the potential timeline of the studio bargaining with Ray Parker Jr. to use the theme song for cheaper than $1 billion.

I'm going to assume they'll be doing a new song for the series.

So we have to put up with these pain in the ass click bait articles until June. It would have been nice if Ghostcorps could have teased us with a screen shot until then. Lol.

Has anything been mentioned about the movie or are we thinking the movie is going to set up the animated series? Because yes. I need more Ghostbusters popcorn buckets. I won't be happy until I can drink out of a PKE meter. Lol.

Ghost Corps teased a fall event Ectober this year. Does sort of line up with my theory we could see them release a trailer near October/November for this show. Do that during an official company event makes sense.

No, the movie wasn't mentioned. One thing at a time seems to be the motto. We don't know anything about the canonicity of the movie nor its relation to this series if at all.

edit: Animation director/producer Seth Kearsley confirms it's "been in production for a while," says he saw development art that looks badass, and described it as "High end TV CG....think Stranger Things animated level."

Brand Collaborations? Like I mentioned my dream crossover is Sonic. They’re doing a Godzilla comic next and the mobile game Rumble has added various characters but I haven’t had a chance to play it.

It’d be cool to get Halloween themed food. Shame they didn’t do ice cream or popsicles for Frozen Empire but they can still do it.

Now that I think of it...the toys for this cartoon must be in production since it’s scheduled to release next year. Merchandise is usually done in advance. I’m guessing we won’t see any until October though unless there’s leaks.
#5009174
Cinemark or regal had slushies for fe and afterlife. But yeah. It would be nice getting an adult themed Happy Meal centered around Ghostbusters when and if this show finally drops. I think Mc Donald's has the licence or was it Burger King? Having no fast food tie ins for the last two films I'm not holding out hope. They aren't good about advertising to the non fans.
#5009175
Why an Adult Themed Happy Meal? I know those are a thing but why specifically Adult? It could be a standard Happy Meal. Sonic had kids meal toys last. I have the Slimer spoon. I really wanted the PKE Meter and Neutrona Wand. I thought those were really cute.

More Fast Food toys would be awesome but I meant overall products. They did juice bottles with Mini Puft capsule figures for AF. I got a handful of those and of course the Stay Puft branded Marshmallows. Maybe cereal again but not sure how it’d be different. Fanta did horror themed soda last year. I got Chucky’s Punch. I kept one of the cans but they released cups too. They could do some kind of Ecto soda.

There’s also a bunch candy that does not get released in the US for whatever stupid reason. I literally thought of this last night and look it actually exists already...

It worked well for minecraft and I don't see why they couldn't do both when and if another movie gets made. I think McDonalds dropped the ball by going with k pop demon hunters and not offering Mario Galaxy collectibles instead. They'll be doing Stranger Things soon I think.im not complaining about the lack of products just with the lack of advertising. But yeah super annoyed that Burger King decided not to give us the color changing Mandalorian and grogu cups that the UK got.

Just because it worked for (or was justifiable with) Minecraft doesn't automatically mean the same is applicable to Ghostbusters, Minecraft has a substantial fanbase these days, and has a lot more money pouring into it than our own franchise (just look at the LEGO tie-in, there are new sets based on Minecraft released each year, and the range has been going strong for 14 years.)
#5009180
Yeah that was just the regular happy meals though. They didn't market Galaxy with their adult happy meals. We got k pop demon hunters instead. :sigh:

But how often does an American streaming animated title have merch?

Merch wasn't even offered for KPOP Demon Hunters at first, right? Then only after the mega success did they toy companies unveil figures, fast food promotion, making of book, a physical disc release (albeit only through Criterion).

Or like with HBO Max, barely any merch for their DC animation aside from shirts or mugs initially for a title like Harley Quinn and haven't even finished putting out the show on Blu-ray. Mondo just 1 year after the current season finished put out I believe the first figures ever for the show after it's had 5 seasons.

It's certainly curious what Hasbro will offer if anything at all from this new GB series when they haven't even released all of the new movie characters on their Plasma Series line or really their role in Frozen Empire merch was lackluster to say the least but are still doing a conservative rollout of their Kenner re-releases with a some brand new variants in their Ecto Glow line and haven't done any new HasLabs with the focus on rolling out the Ecto-1 set, the Rooftop Showdown GB1 set, and soon the Proton Pack '84 version.

Sonic Prime, MLP New Generation, Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous/Chaos Theory, which were also Netflix shows had their own toy lines...I assume this GB cartoon will get one too. I don’t know why not.

I wasn’t saying this cartoon specifically should get food-tie-ins though. I only brought that up because of Ectober and the article mentioned brand collaborations.

Cool. I suppose KDH was an unknown but your examples and GB are established franchises/ip so chances are higher this show will have a toy line. Hopefully Hasbro puts out a robust line for it.

If it's a revamp of RGB, or a continuation it would be nice to see something slightly less expensive then the Mondo figures. They are still excellent figures though. If it's set in the same timeframe as Walter Peck running for mayor I'd be stoked if David could come back and voice Peter. It would be friggin great if we could get Earnie!
