I am so excited to add this very unique feature to the thrower! A very good friend helped me source a darker orange hat light at a really good price. While the reproduction hat light is absolutely beautiful, it is a little lighter shade than what is seen in 84 and 89. Here are some shots of the more accurate hat light along with a reference shot from the library.
Image

I will be saving the reproduction hat light for my future build that I am planning out - which will be a Zeddemore Afterlife, which thankfully does not seem to use vintage parts like this build… but that will be a new thread when the time comes.

The ones in the photo are from Magnoli. I think they replicate the Sedgwick lobby look pretty well. I also have pads from GBfans and some that I repurposed and dyed myself years ago. These might be my favorite.

For additional info - The suit pictured is by Ectowear (patches by Todd Cook) belt is GBfans grey, and boots are by Kystar.
Looking great all around.

I'm curious, what do you think of the Kystars? I was curious, but I can't find any information on the build or comfort on them.

I am happy with them, they are a great approximation of the screen used boot that also includes the brown stripe in the sole that other boots do not have. The zipper pull is not exact to the originals but you really have to look to notice. Overall the pricing is fair and comparable with off the shelf boots. They are great to show off the silver zipper and comfortable. I’d say they’re worth spending on if you’re going for the “accurate” look.

So the journey hasn’t ended, I’m still working on improving the accuracy of the build! I bought the newer GBfans injector tubes and have had them sitting around forever, I had used the older model on this pack. The older ones while they look great, are not fully “accurate” to the original props.

The injectors on the 84 (and 89) Spengler Hero pack are a little different than the other hero packs, notably how I previously posted, the welds are ground down and the corners of the mounting plate are clipped. I got around to carefully grinding the welds and am pretty happy with how it turned out, here are some progress photos:
Image
It is almost a shame to grind the welds as they are beautifully done, perhaps I can let them be on a future pack. My metal finishing skills are still developing, but paint covered up the finish on the aluminum surface pretty well.

Next I will have to cut the corners off the top plate (which I previously covered) and finalize the paint and finish to match the pack.

Update:

I had some free time so I was able to cut the corners off the baseplate with my handy dandy hack saw. Then I filed the cut points to clean them up as the saw cuts leave a breakpoint where you have to snap off the piece that was cut. Here are some pics of the process:
Image
You can see the “unclean” cut point on the corner that has been cut off. I have the injectors a coat of paint while I was at it and once it cures I will work on the finishing process. Given the weather, it will likely take a day or two to cure.

Here is a closeup of the sharp edges where the welds were ground down, I’m pretty happy with these edges!

Here is a medley of the almost completed injectors, some final finishing work will be needed before they can be mounted. I will have to make the holes in the shell larger for these as the holes for the previous injectors and these do not line up. I’ll save that for the near future.

Finally had a bit of time to myself this morning to get the new injectors on the pack and I’m thrilled with the look. Here’s the update:

There are still other small details in the works which I hope to get soon, but really these are now things nobody would ever notice.

Dude, this pack looks like a bucket of suck. You should just pack it up and send it to me so you don't have to look at it, like the failures of a child it is, anymore. Really, I'll be doing you a favor.

Nah, I love this pack so much. Keep on hammering at at those esoteric details. I'll keep finding more things for you to spend money on. Our packs still need a play-date. Lmfao

Yeah you’d like that wouldn’t you! How about I take care of your pack for you, I’ll even pay for shipping to make sure it is handled accordingly.

Now comes a moment which I have been waiting for a while. I had caught this detail on the Spengler thrower over a year ago but was not sure how to address it, as nobody really offers this item for sale and I do not have the ability to make it myself. My temporary solution was to place a grub screw in the hole to try to cover it. The side knob on the Spengler thrower has no hole where all the other throwers have a hole in the knob. All of the knobs offered by makers have the hole, as it is correct to all the packs…. Except the Spengler hero.

Here are photos of the side knobs on all the other packs, note the hole in the knob that is next to the heat sink and how it is present on all of them:
Image

Now see the images of the Spengler hero where the hole is missing on the knob:
Image

I had approached Freeky Geeky for a custom knob a while back and he did mention he could make it for me, but a long time has passed since that conversation. He messaged me out of the blue a few days ago saying he had my knob (and a few other custom requested items) ready to ship! So here it is from the picture he sent me:
Image

I am so absolutely thrilled and cannot wait to get that knob onto my thrower, it is one of the final details for this build that I have been wanting to get right for a very long time. He will be shipping it soon, and he lives fairly close to me so I shouldn’t have to wait long - this will be a real crown jewel of a detail and I cannot wait to share pics of it on my thrower!

Weird stuff like this is exactly why I love the Spengler pack. While I know every pack has its own quirks and personality, I find Egon to have the most little picadilllos that really speak to my own individual eccentricities. Offset and unique greeblies, random beveled edges, missing holes. Oh, and his ribbon cable twist...?

What's *not* to love?

So the custom thrower knob arrived yesterday and I could not be happier. This is the ultimate detail that has been eluding me for over a year. I am just dreamy eyed looking at this. It is also fresh of the lathe and not super shiny so it fits the aesthetic of the build perfectly.

I’ll have to do a new photoshoot when the light is right :vinzclortho:

Update to show latest interior decals, I have added a custom decal that I developed with a friend, can you spot it? It pays tribute to the build.

So long lead items that are in the works but who knows when they’ll be complete:

Ion arm end cap that is specific to the Spengs with the rod a little closer to the center. The rod will be straight as it appears for most of ‘84. Just my personal preference.

Injectors that are specific to the Spengs with welds in the “correct” spots and clean edges (matching the original Spengler pack prop).

I don’t see these being completed anytime soon, but nonetheless will be very exciting when they finally come in. Thank you so much for the kind words, it is very meaningful feedback.

Hi Ed! I've been inspired by your work to finish my HasLab wand and full size spirit pack to be Spengler 84's. The pack I made 20 years ago was mostly a Venkman 84, and I am also working on finishing that to be more accurate.
Since you have done a considerable amount of research, and you found details no "normal human" (to quote the Ultimate Warrior) has seen, I had a few questions.
1) From what I've been able to see on the GBreference site, the 4 washers on the 4 mounting screws on the ion arm, gun mount, and bottom of cyclotron are silver, not brass. What made you choose brass?
https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/cont ... ormat=500w
2) The twist tie on the split loom on the wand does not appear there until the roof. Given that the location of the mounting screws changes, and you opted for a clean/early look, what made you choose the twist tie?
https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/cont ... ormat=300w
3a) Look down the barrel, there is a hole on the elbow with the orange hi hat and red bush button. Did you incorporate that on your wand? It cannot be identified on any other pack by the Stanz.
https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/cont ... rmat=1000w
3b) From the same perspective, there is a hole on the gun body between the barrel arm and the palm rest. Did you incorporate that?
