With the upcoming release of Troy Benjamin's Visual History, the advent of the Mondo RGB figures, and the discovery and restoration of the RGB Promo pilot, I got to thinking about what is left to uncover and I kept coming back to the same answer...a full recording of the theme song.

I know over the years people have tried their hand at reconstructions, but I am curious as to whether or not anyone has ever nailed down why this song still seems to evade the community. We know there must be a full version or must HAVE been a full version at some point. Just curious, anyone ever come close to finding out if it still exists?

There definitely was a full version of the song, the promo animation is proof of that... But whether that recording still exists is the big question.

The fact the Time Life DVD set was assembled from broadcast copies of the episodes, rather than the masters, sadly shows that some of this media is either inaccessible to us and stuck in an archive somewhere (the best case scenario), or has been lost to time either through media decay, or an absence of foresight. Had the show been made in the era where computers were commonplace in animation, there's a good chance the song would've surfaced for use on home media.

Has anyone ever tracked down the original artist? And I don't necessarily mean correspondence, but I mean even identified who the singer is. If I learned anything from Doctor Who it is that the name John Smith JUST might imply a pseudonym.

Heck, for all we know one of the Doctors more musically inclined incarnations did the theme.
In all seriousness, with next year being RGBs 40th, it wouldn't surprise me if the theme was released or found or something.

If that is the case, then I could see another huge hurdle in discovering the full song. My guess would be performing under a pen name forty years ago could make copyright an issue...
