Silly question that just came to me:
Do you guys think they still did the Times Square ball drop to ring in 1990 during the events of Ghostbusters II? The ghosts started showing up all over Manhattan on December 30th, and by the afternoon of the 31st there was a supernatural eclipse blocking out the sun.

I want to say they would’ve canceled it… but then again, there were still tons of people out on the streets cheering while the Ghostbusters were walking the Statue of Liberty down the avenue. Also things seemed pretty normal when Louis got on the bus. So I’m not so sure.

yeah, I figured the ghosts caused mayhem and all festivities were shut down but then people were trying to figure out what to do heard about/saw the Statue of Liberty marching onto Manhattan and followed it to the museum and decided to do their own countdown hence the revelry and singing that helped defeat Vigo coincidentally.

As the film had lots of partygoers gathered outside of the museum and along 5th Avenue for Liberty's walk, and the comic adaptation showed a snippet of Times Square during that same sequence, I figure the city went ahead with the ball drop, slime be damned. :)

Incidentally, most of the script drafts and novelisations featured a scene where the revellers in Times Square watched Liberty walk up Broadway towards them as they waited for 1990 to arrive.

They never would've done that.
This.

Hell could crack open the Earth, during a record breaking blizzard while aliens invaded and that ball would still drop at midnight Eastern time.

who knows lol anything can happen in the big apple
I'm assuming you're not from the area, so, I mean no offense by this, but New York would sooner demand the West coast celebrate 3 hours earlier than delay their festivities.
