" Ghostbusters Day 2025 is here, and with it comes the launch of a heartwarming new initiative that shines a spotlight on the community’s longstanding spirit of giving. Unveiled live at New York City’s iconic Hook & Ladder 8, director Jason Reitman took to the mic during today’s annual Ghostbusters Day celebration to officially launch “Ghostbusters Give Back.”
A philanthropic initiative from Sony Pictures and Ghost Corps, this new campaign invites fan franchises from around the world to participate in a friendly, year-long fundraising competition to see which local teams can raise the most money for causes in their communities. Contributions made through the Ghostbusters Give Back hub will be tracked online, with Sony Pictures pledging to match all donations, up to $150,000, benefiting the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The goal? To produce and deliver over 6,000 Ghostbusters-themed gowns to children in hospitals.
Speaking to the fandom’s incredible dedication, Jason Reitman remarked, “Since fans started wearing flight suits in the 1980s, Ghostbusters groups have emerged across the country to spread joy and raise money for organizations that need support. Any given week, there is a Ghostbuster group somewhere in America visiting a children’s hospital or holding a fundraiser. This year, we’re honoring that incredible work and supporting their efforts with a little healthy competition.”
The announcement marks the latest effort in what has already been a massively successful ongoing partnership. Earlier this year, we reported that the campaign had officially surpassed its $80,000 goal, raising over $87,000, with donations still being received. Thanks to the outpouring of support, an additional 1,000 “slimed” gowns have begun being distributed to children in hospitals across the country.
Beyond the gowns, other Sony Group companies are also contributing to the cause, with Sony Electronics and PlayStation donating brand-new 65” Sony BRAVIA TVs and PlayStation 5 consoles to local firehouses in New York and Los Angeles.
For those interested in getting involved, full details, donation tracking, and submission info can be found through the official Ghostbusters website under the new Ghostbusters Give Back hub.
