Hello! I was exploring the Firehouse in SU earlier today and one of the bits of background set dressing caught my eye because it looked so much more 'real' than the rest of the equipment dotted around the environment:
I didn't recognise it from any of the movies but I figured it must have been based on something real-worldy because compared to the slightly cartoonish aesthetic the game has, this thing almost looked out of place. It turns out it's based on the HP 8112A Pulse Generator.
There are apparently some available (ebay, etc) so if you're looking for some genuine(ish) ghostbusting equipment to fill out your collection some more, grab one if you see it.
I had a look around at some of the other 'real' looking gizmos around the SU firehouse and found the same trend:
The oscilloscope on the right seems to be the Tektronix 453...
...While the one on the left is apparently a Meguro MSW-721E, albeit with a round display rather than the square (though I haven't seen a real world one with this configuration).
This just seems to be a generic benchtop amp/volt meter, but I haven't been able to find a close match yet.
Now, you'll notice that the first three bits of kit have model numbers written on the faces, which are just ever-so-slightly altered versions of their real world counterparts (I'm guessing this is to avoid possible legal/copyright complications?) but it's also interesting because it turns out all these pieces of equipment, including the voltmeter, are available from this 3D model asset store as one big bundle (with a bunch of other unused ones):

Pretty handy, huh? I assume the game devs just bought this pack and dropped the best bits around the Firehouse, which explains why these particular pieces look so different to the rest of the environment.
But the only thing bugging me now is this mysterious lil' guy:
I can't seem to find it anywhere. At first I thought it might be based on some kind of spectrophotometer but a closer inspection of the buttons makes it look like some recording/playback machine? A vintage answerphone? Betamax? I have no idea.
Any insights are appreciated! I fear this has become my new hyperfixation...
