I think the terminal block is pretty awesome actually.

And, I’ll probably get eaten alive for this, but I was happy to see the nozzle make its way from ATC. In fact, I rather liked a lot about the ATC packs. Not everything, but a good bit.

I agree, the terminal block for ribbon cable wires to disappear into is better than just a hole in the shell. Shorten the block enough to allow the beamline to make a return and I think that's a way better combo than what they did to the HASP packs for FE.

Have you considered that the grounding wires are a replacement for the belt gizmo?

The grounding/terminal wires are not an upgrade. I'll die on this hill lol the repairs were likely not done internally because Egon lived on a farmhouse with limited resources to do repairs correctly and an Ace Hardware nearby to buy supplies. He also somehow managed to cobble together four sentry packs with what he had at his disposal.

If every change on the Phoebe pack was an upgrade and carried over to the new HASP packs.... then where is the brass fitting and black hose for the side port on the EDA? Or the spiral wire wrap and yellow sleeve from the cyclotron port?

Yeah, I got nothin'. I think those should have been carried over, they were cool asf. The wiring looks good, what does it matter if it makes sense or not?

I gotta come down on the side of all the extra clippard wires look awesome as an improvised repair/improvement, but terrible as a permanent addition to the pack. They still look haphazard and dangerous on the HASP packs, and they work against what the HASP is supposed to be going for.

I have to agree with you. I think the wires should have been internalized for the upgraded packs.

Other than the ion arm, I'm not a fan of the FE changes. Unless I missed it, they served no stated purpose in the film.

I'm a big fan of the Extreme packs and want that to be my next build, but it's daunting.

Fast forward to Frozen Empire's HASP packs. The design is.... odd. What were clearly meant to be makeshift repairs on the Spengler pack in Afterlife are now present on every brand new pack produced with Zeddemore's funds. But.... why? In universe, surely the Engineering division at the PRC would have come up with a solution to the exposed grounding wires, the electrical tape wrapped around connections on the pneumatic fittings, the frankensteined gas mask hose/rubber hose/wire loom connection from the pack to the thrower, etc.

I agree on the cobbled bits making it over to FE. Zedd Ind could afford at least proper heat shrink, modernized wire loom and shielding, grounding blocks, terminals, etc. Using 1983 era resistors would seem a bit off too, feels they would be ordering bulk via a company not scrounging milsurp and would see modern variants on the pack. Really the same with hardware one would think and the bellows. I get there is some recognition factor with using older stuff...but it does feel a bit lazy from the prop team (and strangely looking at images on GB Reference Library, these "new packs" have odd random weathering on them).

As for the cobbled Spengler pack, using IRL/head canon...if Egon sourced the obscure parts to build portable mini packs for the Gozer well and engineer them, and sourced that 12" run of flexo pet (yellow wire wrap)...I would think he would have sourced proper supplies or had them considering he had a full on lab under a barn. Tubing, heat shrink, proper wire vs what looks thrown together and cut out of buildings like a crack head stealing copper. I mean we are talking about the man who very calmly stood up and straightened his tie before sliding down the pole their first call...suddenly he is half his personal proton pack while simultaneously fabricating 4 mini proton packs and neutrona wands it kinda irks me.

But on the surface I still enjoy em. I do like the original GB bellows, socket headed bolts, ribbon cable better vs the 89 updates and I do kinda prefer the grey crank knob.

I personally loved the packs in FE. A nice update to the classic look and I like the yellow and black striping making it onto a screen used pack since I’ve seen so many fan made packs with that included somehow.
