Idk, we've seen glimpses of three permutations drafts by 'comedy writers' who tried to make a third GB movie over the span of 30 years and from what we saw... we dodged some clunkers.
The Poltergeist reboot. I gave Gil a pass on that one. Felt like there were a lot of behind the scenes stuff. Pretty sure before he was onboard it went through a lot of development delays and that was a sign something was amiss. Well, the franchise needed to stay buried and a reboot was totally unnecessary. It probably didn't help that the 1st Jurassic World came out right after it. I am a bit more bullish on the Russo Brothers' reboot of Poltergeist, if they're still doing it that is.
Monster House is what Gil is best known for and I guess that and the directing choices in Poltergeist could hint at what they have in-store for this movie. I'm liking the theory of them being trapped in the Firehouse by an entity/entities. Like the Containment Unit has a slow leak and the P.K.E. is infusing itself into the building and slowly taking over. Afterlife had to be a specific tone so yes, all eyes on how different a tone they will strive for in this movie. I think they are smart enough to know, they gotta hit more closer to GB1 and GB2. But I still think Afterlife had its great comedy bits, too, despite having to skew to a more somber tone because what the intent of the story was.
