I got to thinking about the post credits scene where they return to the Firehouse and it shows the Containment Unit lit up and I got curious as to who or what might be in there. Any guesses? I know they trapped a lot during the Gozer fight in the field but I was taking it that it was meant to insinuate there had been a ghost in there the entire time. Anybody else thought about this? Sorry if I missed it in another thread. I don't get to be here as much as I'd like.

Who's in there? All the ghosts they'd caught between 1989 and when Egon left New York. The business may've been running dry but the things they'd caught up to that point will still be in there.

I don't think Gozer is in there, but of course the ultimate fate of the Traps from the farm is unresolved.

I think thats a good point. There should be hundreds of hundreds of ghosts. Remember Ray says they were getting 10 calls a week average to then pass to 1 ina week or 10 days. So thats a lot for a few years.

The question here is, if they lost the Firehouse... it's hard to think that they left the unit there alone. Knowing the building might be even destroyed to build something new over the years, or without any maintenance. Imagine something happens and the unit breaks, or the new owner tears down all... That would be a catastrophe.

They should have had to move the unit or made a transfer system to get all the ghosts safe. But it seems they didn't.

Before I pictured either Ray living at the firehouse to keep guard (I assumed at some point they owned it) or Egon safely uninstalled it to relocate. The public knew what was stored there. Hard to imagine nobody would have tried breaking in and messing with it if it was abandoned for so long.

Unless Winston bought it after they separated and Ray kept tabs on it...which he should have just lived there then. He loved it. Even if he got married I think he would have maintained it some. It’s big enough to use for storage at least while caring for the containment unit.

I asked Eric Reich weeks ago and he confirmed Winston bought the Hook & Ladder No. 8 property after the battle in Summerville.

It's likely Ray could've thought of something, but they lost a good chunk of their brain trust when Egon left. Not to mention they may've already been undergoing financial hardship due to the drop in ghost activity in the months/weeks leading up to Egon's departure, which might've made a plan to re-site the Containment United fiscally unfeasible.

Still, its a very Dangerous situation here, we know at certain point people Believed in them, probably the Autorithies too, if not they would have been shutted down, and after GB2 I don't see how they turn the back on them again. It would not have sense, so the Videogame/IDW thign about having a contract with the Goverment has all the sense and would be the next step.

Let's say all goes downhill financially and they have to "close". Still I'm sure you can find help in the autorities to solve the containment unit issue. They also saw what happened on the first movie, so there are facts hard to ignore.

It's like if someone Creates the Atomic Bomb on their home, they loose the home, and decided that its a good idea to leave the place leaving an Atomic Bomb on the Basement. It cna be a Catastrophe.

The only solution I see is that The Goverment agreed to remove the Unit and palce it in a safer place, but they lied and really never did it. But still... It's hard to Believe that Ray would just forget baout it, he porbably had to show how to maintain it to someone in the gverment... but yet... it doesn't fit right.

Ray definitely said that and that also makes me wonder if Grooberson wasn't wrong when he said "there hasn't been a ghost sighting in 30 years". I agree that it's probable the ghosts in there have been in there since 1989 and I also suppose the reason Egon maybe could have left it is that he really felt the true "threat" was from Gozer coming back and hence the supposed "falling out" with Ray. What I would actually like would be for some of the ghosts from the show to be in there like Sam Hain or something like that. I would absolutely love for aspects of the show to be honored in this new iteration.

There hasn't been a mass public ghost sighting in 30 years. I still say there's plenty of room to fill in gaps & OGB adventures. We're also assuming the containment unit shown is in the Firehouse ...

It looks like the same block wall from where the original unit was to me. Also when Ray explains it to Winston originally he says the red light indicates the "entry grid". This means that ghosts are actually entering the unit at the very least of course of the light is green the trap is clean. So does the red light actually indicate ghosts are in there or just that they're on their way to being in there? Wouldn't it sorta mean the green light is what indicates the ghosts are in there since the "trap is clean"?

The red Light in the pannel is the Grid that protects the unit. So as I understand, there is a Grid that acts as cage, ther eis the second button (yellow) that neutronizes the grid, and then the green light means all is set.

In this case the red light on the pannel is blinking. That might mean a malfunction on the Grid or that its being compromised. I'm basing in the facts that when in GB1 the police shuts off the power, the containment unit shows the pannel witht he 3 lights off except the Red one that its constant. Apart of the Red Bulb Blinking and Alarm sound on the top of course.

So to try to put it some sense, I would say that the Unit lost power probably, and eprse lost the Neutronized field around the grid, so the light pass form Green to Blinking red meaning the unit its compromissed or Holding as it can with the remaining energy that its recieving, but not for much longer. The next step would be steady red light, and that would mean the unit is open/Broken an the Ghosts can Get out.

I think this might be a good Starting point to a new movie, let's say that after the disbanding, the goverment said they woudl take care of the Unit, Ray trained a couple of people to transfer it or move the unit and maintain it. The Goverment man that was responsible for that thought he could get the money for himself or something else, and never actually did anything due to their trend to not believe in ghosts or something. We know there are assholes everywhere... and people that would never believe in the GB.

Unit breaks, releases the ghosts. Ray feels guilty for not supervising the proces and allow that to happen, joins back to Winston to rebuild GB. This shows tot he world and goverment that all was ture, all is a serious threat, and there need to be a GB unit always in case somehting happens, or there is a rising psicomagnetic energy like when Gozer or Vigo.

I was thinking it would have been interesting if Egon took the containment unit and installed it in his lab. This could have tied to him loosing power because it was consuming electricity and create a dilemma between all the traps while risking the unit going off...trap Gozer or potentially unleash the ghosts.

Not sure how much power is needed to keep it on. I know the first movie implies a lot but thought it might be cool and clear up being left alone. Just an idea. I don’t know how it would have worked.

I agree it’d be awesome to get more ghosts from the cartoon. I know a lot of people loved the Boogeyman. He could probably be the main villain of a whole movie.

I wonder who paid the electrical bill during the nearly 30 years they have been out of the firehouse LOL

I would hope that when Egon and Ray rebuilt it in 1989, they came up with a reserve energy source for the unit in case of another shutdown, blackout etc. that could run perpetually for decades. And so in the decades between the Ghostbusters ended and this end tag, it's been running on that power source since but ironically at the same moment when Winston is soaking it in and feeling hope, something happens to cause the red light to start blinking.

Maybe when the property was sold to Starbucks (if for sure it wasn't a Ray exaggeration) the city had the basement closed off or locked and could only be accessed by city utilities who might have taken a course in monitoring it since they sort of helped blow it up once? Best I have other then Starbucks bought it, then found out what it was previously and decided it wasn't best for their brand? But here they're closing starbucks left and right so maybe this one just never got off the ground...from the looks of the hall at the end that might be right.

not to go into too much detail, but with my job, I sometimes take part of deli and restaurant renovations in New York City. So, let's assume Ray's line about the firehouse being a Starbucks wasn't snark and hyperbole. The basement wouldn't be utilized with all that space right there on the garage level.

"But why?"

Time. Keeping supplies right there on the first floor saves a HELL of a lot of time and less risk of employees getting hurt.

There have been several times on the job where there's downtime and the crew I'm with will "explore" and facility and more than once we've run across abandoned refrigeration units in a forgotten corner of a connected basement. (normally we'll let one of the higher ups know... unless they're awful to us then it's a case of 'not our monkeys, not our circus' ). You also DO NOT MESS with any unmentioned equipment you find. Sometimes those fridges are still running, sometimes they aren't and haven't in years. You pop open a fridge with YEARS worth of rotting food and suddenly you've unleashed a biohazard on scene and there are some smells you will NEVER forget.

So, looking at the state of GBHQ, had there been other business in there, they were in and gone years before we see Winston and his associate bring Ecto-1 home. It's completely within reason that the ECU was never messed with after the guys lost the property (I REALLY REALLY hope they managed to pay off Ray's 3 mortgages before the city sued them after Gozer's initial defeat). I always thought that Egon and Ray may have illegally wired the ECU into the power grid after rebuilding it to prevent it from being shut down the way it was in '84.

Ya I can definitely buy into sections of places being unused. There’s a lot of horror movies where extra rooms or spaces are discovered in a house/building with something strange in them.

I had not thought about the power bill though. Haha. Maybe it was officially recognized as a possible hazard so it was blocked from the public and left on.

Good point. That reminds me of Las Vegas, how some floors on casino/hotels are abandoned and abandoned kitchens used for storage of secondary things not used often and that staff rarely steps foot in.
