I still say there's plenty of room to fill in gaps & OGB adventures. We're also assuming the containment unit shown is in the Firehouse ...
It looks like the same block wall from where the original unit was to me. Also when Ray explains it to Winston originally he says the red light indicates the "entry grid". This means that ghosts are actually entering the unit at the very least of course of the light is green the trap is clean. So does the red light actually indicate ghosts are in there or just that they're on their way to being in there? Wouldn't it sorta mean the green light is what indicates the ghosts are in there since the "trap is clean"?
The red Light in the pannel is the Grid that protects the unit. So as I understand, there is a Grid that acts as cage, ther eis the second button (yellow) that neutronizes the grid, and then the green light means all is set.
In this case the red light on the pannel is blinking. That might mean a malfunction on the Grid or that its being compromised. I'm basing in the facts that when in GB1 the police shuts off the power, the containment unit shows the pannel witht he 3 lights off except the Red one that its constant. Apart of the Red Bulb Blinking and Alarm sound on the top of course.
So to try to put it some sense, I would say that the Unit lost power probably, and eprse lost the Neutronized field around the grid, so the light pass form Green to Blinking red meaning the unit its compromissed or Holding as it can with the remaining energy that its recieving, but not for much longer. The next step would be steady red light, and that would mean the unit is open/Broken an the Ghosts can Get out.
I think this might be a good Starting point to a new movie, let's say that after the disbanding, the goverment said they woudl take care of the Unit, Ray trained a couple of people to transfer it or move the unit and maintain it. The Goverment man that was responsible for that thought he could get the money for himself or something else, and never actually did anything due to their trend to not believe in ghosts or something. We know there are assholes everywhere... and people that would never believe in the GB.
Unit breaks, releases the ghosts. Ray feels guilty for not supervising the proces and allow that to happen, joins back to Winston to rebuild GB. This shows tot he world and goverment that all was ture, all is a serious threat, and there need to be a GB unit always in case somehting happens, or there is a rising psicomagnetic energy like when Gozer or Vigo.
