With the end of the year and the anniversary of the defeat of Vigo the Carpathian in little over a week, more information is trickling out about the various home media releases of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, including a special 8-disc 4K Blu-Ray gift set containing Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, two discs of special features, and an apparent re-release of Don Shay's Making Ghostbusters.

Originally published in 1985, Making Ghostbusters was compiled by Cinefex founder Don Shay, who had curated similar coffee table books for the productions and special effects of Alien and Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The book itself featured an annotated and illustrated version of the October 7th 1983 script of Ghostbusters, as well as a wealth of photographs and production drawings which helped inform the fledgling Ghostbusters prop community.

Details about the re-release are limited at the moment, however for those who are interesting in buying the book along with the 4K set, it is currently priced at $88.99 on Walmart.com, and scheduled for release on February 5th 2022.

Well this is certainly making the news for all the wrong reasons.

Paul Feig is upset the GB16 film is not included in this set and boy is it making the news.

I think he’s right. It should be included.

I needed a new coaster. (Kidding of course)

But I do think Sony should’ve called this set “The original Trilogy” or something because even tho I’m not a fan of the reboot, not including it IS a bad look. Say what you want but there are fans of that movie and they might feel slighted here.

Screw him, according to him his movie is set in another universe (despite the trailers saying otherwise), so why would it be included with the 2 originals and afterlife, all of which are connected to each other?

I think once again he impulsively responded on social media and everyone ate it up like cat nip. The collection is clearly meant for the original movie continuity. Yes, perhaps the nomenclature should have been better phrased but a Twitter tantrum was uncalled for. If it were collecting everything, it would be named the Multiverse Collection or something and maybe even RGB and EGB would be in the mix. And I doubt he knows what sets are in the works and some very well may include ATC. So if there is a collection already planned to have ATC in it, it will now seem like Sony caving and reacting to Feig's post.

Heck, I'm hoping they do a Legacy Collection that has Afterlife and Extreme Ghostbusters' entire run.

It is currently unknown if Making Ghostbusters will be reprinted and sold separately.

Twitter tantrum? Did you even read his tweet? That’s hardly a tantrum. He was extremely polite & not the least bit angry, immature or emotional. Characterizing what he wrote as a tantrum isn’t fair. At all.

Look everyone knows I’m no fan of that movie but put yourself in his shoes for minute. You made a movie that was attacked mercilessly for extremely wrong reasons. All you did was make a movie. Then it bombs. Then Dan Aykroyd comes out and opens his big mouth and spews a bunch of non sense about not being welcome back on the Sony lot. Then a new movie is made that’s a proper sequel. You see this new collection come out that includes every Ghostbusters movie ever made EXCEPT yours.

I think the reaction was more than warranted considering it’s a harmless tweet. It wasn’t a call to action. He didn’t blame anyone. He even said it could be a mistake(it wasn’t).

I feel like I’m in the Twilight Zone here. I’m defending Paul Feig against a MOD lol. Strange days indeed.

(Oh and as a side note Merry Christmas Everyone! Happy holidays! Hope everyone is happy and healthy & has a terrific holiday)

Based on what some copies sell for on eBay and since I need to buy GB:A this set may be worth it if the book isn't sold seperately. I went from "No way am I getting this." to "I love this!"

And that’s without us knowing whats included on the two special features discs.

If they include new GB2 deleted scenes? TAKE MY MONEY NOW.

It shocks me that Cleaning Up The Town documentary isn’t thrown in there for good measure. It’s easily the greatest GB documentary ever made. You’d think it wouldn’t be too hard to work out. They won’t. But they should.

This is the sort of set I’ve wanted from Sony for years. Great packaging and creative goodies included. It’s just a shame it had to be the 38,207th home video reissue of these movies.

I don't mean a tantrum in the conventional sense of a child on the floor pounding their fists. A "Twitter tantrum" is people using the platform to complain about stuff without knowing the full context of things and talking sometimes directly or sometimes in a roundabout way.

The way he starts with "Uh.." is so passive aggressive. Even if he wasn't, he didn't need to post about it. Did he email his Sony contacts for clarification on the set first before publishing that tweet? I doubt it. He has to be smart enough to know the Internet would take a post like that and twist it into a negative piece against Sony and portray Paul as a victim. He still posted it.

This forum does feel like the Twilight Zone more times than not.

Probably a lot of weird licensing issues would get in the way since it's a not a Sony release but an external group that made the doc.

Interesting. Honestly Ive never known a twitter tantrum to mean anything other than someone acting like a jackass by making tweet after tweet on the same subject over and over again. So I’m still not sure calling this a twitter tantrum is exactly fair. It’s just a tweet that’s a helluva lot more polite than it has any right being.

I just don’t think putting the onus on him is fair or right either. Right? Come on fellas. This guy has been put thru the wringer over this movie. Going on 5 years now! Characterizing the tweet as impulsive or suggesting he not say anything at all, or that somehow he is in the wrong here is a bit extreme, no? We have to remember what that cast and he as the director have endured over the years. Harassment. Threats. This probably feels like a win today for the sexists trolls & right wing culture warriors and I’m sure Paul knows that. The onus isn’t on Paul to contact Sony, Sony should’ve contacted him. “Hey just a heads up, here’s what we have planned and this is why”. And the “uuhh” could be passive aggressive, very true, but it also serves a purpose as in “uuhhh…what about us over here at this kids table? Remember us? Are we the black sheep of the family?”. See what I mean?

And worrying about how people will twist something, positive or negative, just isn’t something anybody should worry about. You can’t control what others will do & I don’t think it’s right to ask someone to censor themselves accordingly.

It shocks me to see such non existent support for Paul here on this(the quality of the movie notwithstanding). There’s no reason not to include his movie. Especially when those right wing culture warrior types like Geeks & Gamers etc will crow loud & proud about this as a win for “fandom”. That Sony is “erasing Gb2016”. You can check YouTube. It’s started already. To think those assholes feel like they’ve won? That really truly burns my ass. Or that could be last nights enchilada’s. It’s one of them.

He's being a sore loser. He needs to just accept reality. ATC was not what the majority of fans wanted. Anyone who wants can get a copy of his movie can buy it. He needs to grow up and move on.

Okay, I'll admit "tantrum" wasn't a good descriptor to use. We interpreted the tweet in two different ways. But I still don't think he should have commented. He should have just taken the high road and not get sucked into the narrative. I think Paul spoke too soon because Eric Reich's already hinted in an interview on the 14th that there are "sets" plural coming out. So for all we know, there's already a planned set coming out with all 4 movies in it.

I wasn't aware of this "erasing 2016" stuff touted by the haters you're talking about. That's a bummer to hear about, I don't go on YouTube and listen to opinion pieces/reviews etc. for GB material.

When ATC was released, there were releases where was included in sets with GB1 and GB2. I figured Sony is following the same pattern of putting AL in sets with GB1 and GB2 then later some collector set with all 4 in June. Hard to say because we don't have a press release. Instead pre-orders for a couple versions hit the websites first and people are making their own conclusions. I think Paul's a little in the wrong tweeting and Sony's a little in the wrong in not issuing a full press release about the upcoming home entertainment releases.

It does makes sense since this is about legacy. Gb16 is not in continuity with the rest. I would have liked them to maybe add it in as a legacy version or something.

ATC should 100% be included. Call it a legacy collection if you want it to just be canon. It's a real nonsense on Sony's part, particularly since presumably it would've been more money against the losses they made on that film. Paul Feig would have been within his rights to go full Falling Down on twitter, that he remains so polite and decent is only a testament to his character.

So we are here defending- we just hadn't seen the post in the chaos of Christmas! :)

Does Paul Feig benefit financially if his movie is part of the set?

For me the box set is already more money than I want to spend, really don't want to make it cost more with an extra movie.
No one would blink an eye if Tim Burton's batman was left off of a Christopher Nolan box set. Even if it should be apart of the box set out of principle, probably a low percentage of consumers want to pay extra for it. Those who want it to be part of the set, most likely already own it.

What did he say that warrants you saying you needs to grow up?

What’s wrong with what he said? Again, he wasn’t rude. He wasn’t mean. He wasn’t a bully. It was a polite tweet about a movie. How is this being a sore loser? It’s about how he feels like his movie isn’t being included and that certain groups are using that as some kind of “proof” that Sony is erasing his movie. Seriously. The right wing haters are all over this.

Take your feelings about the movie itself out of this, that’s what I did. Just look at it from an artistic/public humiliation stand point. He’s probably embarrassed. I would be.

Saying he should’ve emailed Sony beforehand is odd. Sony should’ve reached out to him! There’s 4 ghostbusters movies. That’s it. He directed one of them. And there are fans of this movie. I think tweeting about it was probably the smarter approach.

Look at it this way. By sending that tweet Paul made it clear to his fans that he had no idea his movie wasn’t included. There’s zero wrong with that. Fans could’ve been asking him “hey. What’s up, why is your movie not included”. Again, put yourself in his shoes. For all that’s gone down with this movie sending a simple harmless tweet does not deserve the kind of response it’s gotten from some here.

“Grow up” “sore loser” “starting shit”. If this was the other way around and Ivan or Jason and written that exact same tweet I am guarantee you the response would be different here. Again, please, take your feelings about the movie itself out of the equation.

I can understand his surprise and disappointment... But I think the tweet, even if intended just to vent his frustration, has done more harm than good.

Even in it's mildly-worded presentation it's reopened a wound that even five years later has never full healed, and given those members of the community and beyond who are frankly obsessed with the discord of five years ago more reason to rehash the same old talking points and opinions.

This wasn't intended as a pack containing every Ghostbusters that's been released, it was designed to be a pack of the movies that have a shared canon.

With the whole movie revolving around Egon, the first two movies are almost necessary to watch before afterlife. I don't think feig is on great terms with Ivan and Dan, it's not a well accepted movie and doesn't really match the tone of the other 3. I would have preferred if crystal skull was left out of Indiana Jones box set and Crystal skull matched the tone of the originals just nowhere near as good. It's only a big deal that ATC isn't apart of the set because the movie itself is controversial.
I didn't care for Aykroyd openly criticizing Paul feig and then all of Pauls complaints. When you're that high on the food chain, you need to be the bigger person.

I really don't want to buy this box set. Making Ghostbusters is making it difficult decision. Think the original was 11 x 8.5", not sure a Blu-ray size book will cut it for me . It is cool to have the script with story board. I'd bet money making of Ghostbusters ends up in a loote crate

You can’t live your life worrying about how trolls will react to something. If a simple tweet like that has “reopened wounds” I gotta say, we are in trouble people. This is a movie we are talking about here. What harm has that tweet done? Because let’s be honest here. No one should be bothered by that tweet. I mean let’s use some other, more extreme, examples to explore the logic of this. Should the President never refer to America’s troubled history with slavery and racism out of fear it will reopen old wounds? Of course not. Now that’s obviously an extreme example. But you get the idea. Asking these actors and directors to tip toe around certain subjects because of all the creeps who hated the reboot for the wrong reason is, well, wrong, I think. It means they win. They fractured the community and now I guess they’ve got people scared of it getting fractured again, over something silly.

Paul Feig wrote a harmless tweet basically saying “Hey. What about us? We exist” and it shocks me to see people here take issue with that. Because it’s not the tweet that you are responding to. It’s the reactions. Well those reactions, the ones opening old wounds, the ones causing harm, that’s where the problem lies. Not with Feig’s tweet.
Saying he shouldn’t write the tweet is like saying he shouldn’t have made the movie. “He knew it would cause a reaction. He knew it would divide the fanbase”.

We gotta be better than that.

It's unfortunate the pre-order pages don't include dimensions of the box. But eyeballing it, it could be Making Ghostbusters is being reprinted at its original size.

I've noticed some websites don't even use "Ultimate Collection" for the title so I'm wondering if at some point it was dropped but not everyone got the 411 and posted old promotional artwork they weren't supposed to. Like it was just intended to be an Afterlife gift set, not an we got everything in it collection (because we all know that's false because there's a lot of deleted scenes from GB1 and GB2 alone that have yet to be found/cleaned/added much less the lack of ATC, Cleanin' Up The Town, and the upcoming Too Hot To Handle... and I can only imagine there's tons more Afterlife special features that could be released but probably won't be for whatever production budget reasons blah blah).

What I don't like is Sony didn't issue a full press release detailing all the upcoming releases for Afterlife and any collections with Afterlife in it and websites starting posting pre-orders ahead of it AND Paul either read the title of a clickbait article that had the same information or should I say lack of full information we all have or read the clickbait article and fell into the trap and reacted with a tweet. And here we are arguing in circles about what is harmless and what isn't harmless on social media and for all we know it might not even matter because "Ultimate Collection" might be an already discarded title that was mistakenly posted.

On one hand I get it's a bad look if it really is an Ultimate Collection when it's nowhere near definitive but on the other hand, not even considering what is lacking from the set, let Afterlife have its time to shine. Making it about ATC feels a little selfish.

In time I think there will be sets with all 4. Waiting until the June anniversary seems like the best time to release such a set. With ATC, I'd love to have a 2 disc in a collection set that has the Extended and Theatrical version and all of the special features collected, including those digital exclusive ones that were split up between services like iTunes and Vudu and on the Target exclusive disc. Ooh, and copies of the Ghosts From Our Past tie-in book. Or I would totally go for a "Legacy Collection," a set that has Afterlife, a bonus disc of new previously unreleased special features, and all 40 episodes of Extreme Ghostbusters.

I don't think Paul said anything wrong in his Tweet. Answer the Call is a part of Ghostbusters, and should be in an "Ultimate" collection. Remember how gracious Paul was towards Afterlife? No one is obligated to like Answer the Call, or even to think it was a good movie. But I do think it deserves to be respected--it does have its fans, and I do think that they tried to make the best Ghostbusters film that they knew how to make...

I kinda have to when I'm having to moderate anything connected to the recent flareup, and someone who'd just like to be able to discuss the 2016 movie without it turning into another thread of why people felt it sucked.

If I weren't a mod, it wouldn't really be my problem.
RichardLess wrote: December 26th, 2021, 1:46 amI gotta say, we are in trouble people.
The tweet is a problem, not so much in its content, but the fact it's stirring the pot again... Half a decade later and there's a portion of the community as well as the world that feels this obsessive compulsion to vent their spleens about the reboot, with the same volume today as they did back in 2016... Even though there's a new film they could and should be focusing on.

Think the original was 11 x 8.5", not sure a Blu-ray size book will cut it for me . It is cool to have the script with story board. I'd bet money making of Ghostbusters ends up in a loote crate
I have the suspicion it's a full-size copy rather than a scale reproduction.

Showing respect? ATC is still available to purchase. No need to include it in the new boxset.

Feig is once again sticking a stick in the hornets nest.

He's stirring up shit for no good reason. It's sad to see.

So at this point I’m gathering everytime Paul feig tweets something about Ghostbusters ATC haters the reaction on here is

“How dare he!?!”

Can we please gain just a modicum of perspective here?

Not one of you knows what it’s like to be harassed, bullied and threatened for over 5 years simply because you made a movie. Given that, I think the man’s restraint is god damn heroic. But he tweets about a box set when his is the only one not included and he’s throwing a “twitter tantrum”, being “passive aggressive”, it’s a “problem”, he’s a “sore loser” & “a little selfish”. And the fact that mods of all people have said some of these things? It’s a little surprising.

It’s surprising to see the tide turn a little. I figured some people would use the “well GB ATC isn’t in that canon soo..” excuse but that’s a very silly arbitrary reason when your box set includes a bajillion discs. The question we should be asking is “Yeah. What difference would one more disc have made?”. Again, it’s not like Ivan Reitman didn’t produce the movie or the original cast isn’t in it. This isn’t Star Wars or Star Trek. There are only 4 films. Sony, unless they are idiots, knew full well that not including the only other GB movie in this set would cause the trolls to dance in the streets and say “We Won! We Won! Sony is erasing GB16 from existence”. And as much as I dislike GB16, I dislike those “fandom menace” asshats even more.

I duno. I just think blaming Feig for stirring up the hornets nest or whatever isn’t really fair. But that’s the last I’ll say on the subject.

As they say in the sopranos: “I said my piece”.

His tantrum is being rewarded. They're dumping ATC as a digital download in the new set.

Now his fans need to stop and move on.
