HT1000 case for Mt500 ?

Does anyone know if the Motorola HT1000 case will work for the MT500 ? I have been told that the two radios are of similar size but wanted to be sure before I order one.

I just tried and it does not fit. You could potentially stretch the leather out but it would be very tight and it's thick leather.
